Pride Collect Five Top-Five Finishes at Panther Invite

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Regis College men's track and field team posted several top-five performances as it participated in the Panther Invitational Saturday, hosted by Plymouth State University at the Davis Track.

Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) won his heat and finished third overall in the 200 meter dash with an indoor personal best time of 23.89 seconds. He also produced a season best mark in the long jump, finishing in a tie for 12th place after jumping 5.70 meters (18' 8.5") on his third and final attempt.

AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) tied Pastore for Regis' best individual placement of the day, finishing third in the one mile run with a personal best time of 4:39.45. JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) crossed the finish line in fifth place in the same event at 4:40.53.

In the 800 meter run, Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posted a personal best time of 2:07.42, over five seconds quicker than his previous collegiate best time, as he finished fourth overall in the event. The other Pride top-five finish of the day belonged to Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine), as he placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 14.09 meters (46' 2.75"), accomplished on his first attempt of the finals (fourth throw overall).

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) competed in three individual events during the day, finishing 11th in the 60 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.58 seconds. In field events, he cleared 1.60 meters (5' 3") on his second attempt at that height in the high jump, ending up 12th overall, and he finished 14th in the long jump with a mark of 5.66 meters (18' 7"), achieved on his third and final attempt.

The Pride picked up one more point thanks to an eighth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay, as Corso, Pedersen, Noah Ryan (Stockton, Calif.), and Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) combined for a time of 3:52.47.

Regis ended up in ninth place in the team standings with 27 points, ahead of conference rivals Suffolk (17 points) and Colby-Sawyer (seven points). Host Plymouth State earned the overall invitational title with 150 points, ahead of second place Bridgewater State's 124.5 points.

The Regis College track and field team heads to Boston University's Track and Tennis Center for the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships next Sunday, Feb. 16, starting at 11 a.m.
