Men’s Track and Field Wins Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass. - Led by one school record performance and one New England Championships qualifying effort, the Regis College men's track and field team finished first at the Regis Spring Classic held Monday, April 8, at Regis Stadium.

Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) improved upon his own school record in the long jump, winning the event with a mark of 6.49 meters (21' 3.5"), 0.05 meters further than his previous top mark established at this meet last year. Also in the long jump, Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) finished in fourth place at 5.91 meters (19' 4.75") and Zach Myrick (Southington, Conn.) finished fifth at 5.54 meters (18' 2").

Thuotte also won the pole vault by clearing 3.94 meters (12' 11") and the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters (6' 0.75") on his second attempt. He also won his heat and finished fifth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.68 seconds as well as finished fourth in the discus throw at 34.17 meters (112' 1").

Grayson posted a qualifying time of 15.98 seconds for the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 110 meter hurdles. He also finished first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.69 seconds.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) won the javelin throw by over nine meters with a mark of 54.74 meters (179' 7"), while Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) placed fourth with a top throw of 40.56 meters (133' 1"). In the triple jump, Grayson finished in second place with a mark of 12.25 meters (40' 2.25"), followed by Kiesel in third place at 12.11 meters (39' 8.75").

Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in both the hammer throw with a mark of 36.54 meters (119' 11") and in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.00 seconds, plus he finished fifth in the discus throw at 33.60 meters (110' 3"). In the shot put, Ryan Sweeney (Lynn, Mass.) finished second with a mark of 11.54 meters (37' 10.5"), followed closely by Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) in third place at 11.31 meters (37' 1.25").

Back on the track, Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) won the 1500 meter run by over six seconds with a time of 4:30.89, plus he finished fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:12.19. Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) won the 800 meter run by over five seconds with a time of 2:03.97. Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) completed the 3000 meter steeplechase in 11:22.02, and Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) finished second in the 400 meter dash by just 0.68 seconds with a time of 53.97 seconds.

As a team, the Pride compiled 185 points to win the overall meet, 39 points in front of second place Worcester State.

The Regis College track and field team next heads to Northampton, Mass., for the Carla Coffey Invitational hosted by Smith College Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.
