Pride Track and Field Excels at Reggie Poyau Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Regis track and field team posted several strong performances as it participated in the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University Saturday at the Gosman Center.

Aleyo Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) finished in second place overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.09. Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) also posted a second place finish in the weight throw with a top mark of 13.80 meters (45' 3.5").

The top individual finish on the men's side was also in second place, where Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) found himself in the long jump after posting a mark of 6.33 meters (20' 9.25") on his fifth attempt. Thuotte also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.35 meters (40' 6.25"), also on his fifth attempt in the event.

Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished fifth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 14.40 meters (47' 3"), surpassing his previous best effort by one full meter. Charles also qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 9.63 seconds, and then he posted a time of 9.60 seconds in the finals.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) picked up a couple points for the Pride men by finishing seventh in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 3.65 meters (11' 11.75"). Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) crossed the finish line in fifth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.24.

Back on the track for the women, Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) finished in fourth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:45.57. In the 600 meter run, Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) won her heat and finished seventh overall with a time of 1:59.29, just ahead of teammate Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) in eighth place in 2:03.30.

In the sprints, Olivia Dench (Center Moriches, N.Y.) led the Pride in two events, finishing ninth overall in the 200 meter dash in 28.45 seconds and 12th overall in the 60 meter dash in 8.55 seconds. Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) picked up a point in the long jump with an eighth place finish at 4.72 meters (15' 6").

Both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay picked up points, as the men finished in sixth place with an overall time of 3:59.23 while the women ended up in fifth place with a total time of 4:37.03. The Regis men finished in sixth place with 27 points, while the women finished in ninth place with 29 points.

The Regis College track and field team continues its indoor season next Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University starting at 10 a.m.
