Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Tufts Snowflake Classic

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – The Regis College men's track and field team opened its 2024 outdoor season Saturday at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at the Clarence "Ding" Dussault Track & Field Complex.

Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.), the GNAC Field Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 indoor season, led the Pride in several field events, finishing fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.16 meters (20' 2.5") and sixth in the triple jump at 12.51 meters (41' 0.5"). In addition, he cleared 3.65 meters (11' 11.75") in the pole vault, a personal outdoor-best mark, to end up in a tie for seventh place.

Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished eighth in the finals of the 110 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 17.06 seconds after qualifying with a preliminary time of 17.35 seconds. He also led the team in the hammer throw, placing 11th with a mark of 34.76 meters (114' 0"), also a personal collegiate-best effort.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished ninth in the javelin throw with a top mark of 50.19 meters (164' 8") accomplished on his second attempt. Ryan Sweeney (Lynn, Mass.) placed first among the Pride in two events, finishing 11th in the shot put at 11.52 meters (37' 9.5") and 16th in the discus throw with a mark of 30.59 meters (100' 4").

On the track, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) finished 13th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:00.14, over 28 seconds quicker than his time at this meet one year ago, plus he completed the 1500 meter run in 4:24.93. Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) finished 13th in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:46.74.

Bryce Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.) posted a personal outdoor-best time in the 200 meter dash at 24.21 seconds, while Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) completed the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.09, good enough to finish in 10th place overall. Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) finished the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.36 and the 1500 meter run in 4:39.50.

The Pride will host the Regis Spring Classic next Friday, April 5, starting at 1 p.m. with several field events and continuing at 2 p.m. with the track schedule. After the meet, the seniors on the squad will be recognized for their significant contributions to the track and field program.
