JJ Pedersen Named GNAC Track & Field Male Athlete of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After breaking a school record for the second time in as many meets to open the indoor track and field season, JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

In the first running event of Brandeis' Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational Saturday, Pedersen broke the school record in the 3000 meter run, finishing in third place with a time of 9:14.74. His mark was over 15 seconds faster than the previous standard set in February 2018.

Pedersen continues to rewrite the Regis record book, as he set a new standard in the 5000 meter run at the Emmanuel College Invitational Dec. 7 with a time of 15:48.10, almost 55 seconds faster than the previous mark. During the cross country season, he posted the fastest times ever at five kilometers (17:11) and eight kilometers (26:37) as well as the quickest time by a senior.

The Regis College track and field team heads to Northampton, Mass., for the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 10 a.m.
