Women’s Track and Field Sets Three Regis Records in Busy Weekend

NEW LONDON, Conn./NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Three school records were set and one was matched as the Regis College women's track and field team competed at both the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College and the Carla Coffey Invitational hosted by Smith College.

At the Silfen Invitational Elite Distance Event Friday night, Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) broke her own school record by over three seconds, completing the race in 39:40.83 to finish 11th overall and qualify for the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished ninth in her heat of the 1500 meter run in 5:07.12.   

At Smith College Saturday, Ashleigh Kelley broke her own outdoor school record in the 5000 meter run by almost six full seconds, finishing seventh overall with a time of 18:17.40. In an earlier unseeded heat, Erin Kelley finished sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:11.74.

Friday, Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.) began her first collegiate heptathlon competition with a time of 17.30 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, and then she cleared 1.26 meters (4' 1.5") in the high jump. She posted a collegiate-best mark of 7.24 meters (23' 9") in the shot put and then concluded the day with a time of 28.18 seconds in the 200 meter dash, placing 10th after four events with 1,899 points.

Saturday, Curran posted marks of 4.61 meters (15' 1.5") in the long jump and 13.27 meters (43' 6") in the javelin throw, her first participation in that event at the collegiate level. She concluded the heptathlon by completing the 800 meter run in 2:45.39 for a total of 3,033 points, setting a new school record and finishing 10th overall.

Grace Micklon (Salem, N.H.) once again tied the outdoor school record in the high jump, clearing 1.42 meters (4' 7.75") to finish ninth in the event. Samantha Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) finished sixth in the javelin throw Friday with a top mark of 32.19 meters (105' 7").

Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.74 meters (31' 11.5") accomplished on her sixth and final attempt. Aho also finished 12th overall in the long jump with a mark of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25") and completed the 100 meter hurdles in 19.01 seconds.

Olivia Dench (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was Regis' top finisher in the 100 meter dash at 13.48 seconds and the 200 meter dash at 28.20 seconds. Janet Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) finished third in her heat and 13th overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.33.

The Regis College track and field team heads to Cambridge, Mass., next weekend for the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.
