Women’s Track and Field Makes Big Impression at USM Open

GORHAM, Maine – Led by four podium finishes, including two event victories, the Regis College women's track and field team made a strong impression as it returned to competition at the USM Open II, hosted Saturday by the University of Southern Maine at the Costello Field House.

Aleyo Amasa-Titus (Georgetown, Mass.) won the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 27.61 seconds in the first heat that could not be beaten. She ended up just 2/100ths of a second off the school record of 27.59 seconds established in February 2008.

Amasa-Titus also led off the victorious 4x400 meter relay, teaming with Colleen Curran (Woburn, Mass.), Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.), and Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) to post an overall time of 4:42.57, defeating the relay team from Southern New Hampshire University by less than one second. In addition, Amasa-Titus finished second in the long jump with a mark of 4.86 meters (15' 11.5").

The other podium finish for Regis belonged to Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) as she finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 12.59 meters (41' 3.75") accomplished on her fifth attempt. Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) just missed a top-three placement, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.15 meters (30' 0.25").

Curran qualified for the finals of the 55 meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 10.08 seconds, eventually finishing in seventh place with a finals time of 10.15 seconds. Jean-Philippe finished sixth in the 600 meter run with a time of 2:02.98, while Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) scored in two events after placing fifth in the 800 meter run in 3:02.00 and sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 8.41 meters (27' 7.25").

Olivia Dench (Center Moriches, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 200 meter dash in 29.93 seconds, plus she posted Regis' fastest time in the 55 meter dash at 8.06 seconds. Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.) placed seventh in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:46.63, and Grace Micklon (Salem, N.H.) cleared 1.42 meters (4' 7.75") to finish seventh in the high jump.

Regis College stays close to campus for its next competition, participating in the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., next Saturday, Jan. 13.
