Olivia Juneau Receives GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – After continuing to show improvement during her initial season of collegiate track and field, Regis College freshman Olivia Juneau (Wakefield, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

At the Plymouth State Panther Invitational Saturday, Juneau qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 10.25 seconds, over 3/10ths of a second quicker than her previous personal best. She then finished fourth in the final at 10.38 seconds, plus she ended up 21st in the 60 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 8.86 seconds.

The Panther Invitational was the fourth meet so far in Juneau's career. She also reached the finals of the 60 meter hurdles at the Springfield College Massasoit Classic Jan. 25. At the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational Feb. 1, she led off the Pride's 4x400 meter relay team that posted the squad's best time so far this season at 4:30.56, currently second on the GNAC performance list.

Juneau becomes the third Regis track and field student-athlete to receive a GNAC weekly award this season. JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) was named GNAC Male Track Athlete of the Week Jan. 13, and Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned GNAC Female Field Athlete of the Week recognition Jan. 27.

The Regis College track and field team will be one of six league schools competing at the inaugural GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday, Feb. 16, at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.
