Women’s Track and Field Successfully Opens Indoor Season

BOSTON, Mass. – The Regis women's track and field team began its 2019-20 indoor season with several strong performances at the Emmanuel College Invitational Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Sophomore Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished third in her section and eighth overall in the one mile run with a time of 5:43.50, while Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) also posted an eighth place finish in the 1000 meter run in 3:31.03, followed by Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) in ninth place in 3:45.18. Erin Kelley also competed in the 400 meter dash, ending up with a time of 1:15.81.

Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) finished in 10th place in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:30.52, almost six seconds quicker than her mark on the same track last year. Lizzy Melvin (Southington, Conn.) completed the 800 meter run with a time of 2:51.87, finishing seventh in her section and 18th overall.

In the throwing events, Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished in 11th place in both the weight throw with a top mark of 12.05 meters (39' 6.5") and the shot put at 10.30 meters (33' 9.5").

Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) posted a personal indoor best time in the 200 meter dash at 28.87 seconds. Competing in her first collegiate meet, Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.) participated in the 60 meter dash, posting Regis' top time at 8.79 seconds, as well as in the 200 meter dash in 30.81 seconds and in the long jump with a top leap of 3.88 meters (12' 8.75").

Boucias, Fagundo, Sheehan, and Hannah Morine combined for a 10th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:46.59, crossing the finish line ahead of Fitchburg State in their heat.

Regis will begin the main portion of its indoor schedule after the New Year, starting Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. For the first time, the indoor schedule will culminate in part with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center Sunday, Feb. 16.
