Track & Field Competes At Gordon Kelly Invite, Set Sights On Postseason

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) raced to a second-place finish in the 600-meter and a handful of personal bests fell on both the men's and women's sides as the Regis (Mass.) Track & Field teams head to postseason play after a solid showing at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, Saturday hosted by MIT.

A trio of top 5 finishes highlighted the Pride womens runners. Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) placed fourth in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 8.33. Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) finished fifth with a personal best (9.67) in the 60-meter hurdles and Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) ran the 1,000-meter race with a time of 3:22.66 good for fourth overall. Also delivering a personal best was Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 60-meter dash (8.70) and Abbie Cooke (Abington, Mass.) ran a personal best time of 10.97 in the 60 meter hurdles (10.97), shaving almost half a second off her previous best.

Norton ran his silver finish in a time of 1:25.69 to highlight the men's squad. Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) ran a personal best time of 4:47 in the one mile run and Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) ran a personal best time of 7.42 in the 60 meter dash, placing 10th overall.

Both teams saw successful performances in the throws competitions as well. Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) and Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) threw personal bests in the women's weight throw with tosses of 11.5 and 11.35 meters, respectively. Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned a personal best in the women's shot put (9.87 meters) and Dan LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) edged out his previous best in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.55 meters.

Both Pride teams now set their sights on the New England NCAA Indoor Championships next Saturday, Feb. 18. Tufts will host the men's meet in Medford, Mass. while the women's team return to Cambridge for its championship meet.
