PRIDE OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON AT BSU

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Track and Field Team opened its outdoor season this Sunday at the Bears Track and Field Invitation on the campus of Bridgewater State University.

Despite frigid blustery conditions throughout the day, the team was able the start the season off with some promising performances.

The sprints team initiated the action on the track with a blazing performance in the 4x100m relay. The team made up of Ray Grasso, Carlos Romer, Paul Gionfriddo, and Matthew Owens cruised to victory in their heat and placed 3rd overall with a time of 45.94. Each of those athletes competed in additional events within the meet. Gionfriddo made the finals of the shot put with a throw of 12.40 meters, Owens ran 11.40 seconds in the 100m, which put him within one hundredth of a second of qualifying for the DIII New England Championships, and Romer and Grasso doubled back in the 4x400m relay at the end of the meet. That second relay team was rounded out by Joe Greco and Emmanuel Wani and turned in a time of 3:46.

The women's team featured strong performances across the board as well. Santi Strickland put up solid times of 14.06 and 29.52 in the 100m and 200m runs, respectively, despite the windy conditions, and Sarah Schow competed in the 1500m running 6:11. In the field events, Tory Rapsis represent the Pride by making two clearances in the pole vault the highest being at 2.70m. Finally, Regis soccer player Diana Tran made her debut on the track by competing in the 100m and 200m.

Tufts University will host the Pride next Saturday at the Snowflake Classic. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
