The
Regis College Track & Field Outdoor Team competed this past
weekend at the Corsair Invitational, hosted by Umass Dartmouth.
Fighting especially windy conditions, several athletes posted
season-best performances, setting themselves up nicely for the
final few weeks of the season.
The meet was kicked off by the team’s 4 x 100 meter relay
setting a qualifying time to compete in the Division III New
England Championships (to be held May 1st at Tufts University).
The quartet of Ana Baker (Hartford, CT), Anyah Hernandez
(Brookline, MA), Domingas Gomes (Brockton, MA), and Samantha
LaFrance (Savoy, MA) successfully qualified in their first attempt,
finishing fourth out of seven teams. With two more meets to
fine-tune their relay exchanges, the team is looking for a fast
finish to the season.
Top performances for the sprinters included: Gomes posting a
team-leading time in the 200 with a 29.81s performance, Baker
dropping her 100-meter time by ever closer to the sub-14s barrier,
and Hernandez posting the team’s top 100 time of the year
(and a new personal best) of 14.10s. Other highlights included
freshman Bethany Frye (Adams, MA) and Kate Haslam (Atkinson, NH
– running unattached as a redshirt) finishing 9th and 10th in
the 400-meters, respectively.
The Pride will next compete at the MIT Springtime Invitational,
April 17th.
