Carroll, Kiesel, Margiatto Selected to CSC Academic All-District Team

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College is represented by three student-athletes on the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Men's Cross Country/Track & Field Team for NCAA Division III: recent graduates Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) and Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) as well as rising junior Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.).

The 2022-23 Academic All‐District® Cross Country/Track & Field Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced by the national organization Wednesday, May 31, recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.

Carroll is part of indoor school records in the 4x800 meter relay (8:47.59) and distance medley relay (11:30.85), both established during the 2020 indoor season. He set the outdoor school record in the 1500 meter run on the way to winning the event at the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 4:16.68, plus he anchored the 4x800 meter relay to a conference title.

This year, Carroll battled back from injury to complete his collegiate career, receiving the Dean's Award for Perseverance at the Athletics Awards Ceremony April 28. At the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 6, he ran the third leg to help break the school record in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:37.62. A two-time Academic All-GNAC selection, Carroll received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

Kiesel continues to add to his virtual trophy collection as he recently received USTFCCCA All-Region honors in both the javelin throw and decathlon. At the 2023 New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, he earned All-New England accolades with a second place finish in the decathlon with a school-record total of 5,608 points.

Besides the decathlon, Kiesel also holds the school record in the javelin throw at 57.93 meters (190' 1") and is a 10-time All-GNAC honoree. Kiesel was also one of Regis' top performers in the classroom, earning the 2022-23 Regis Athletics Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Earlier this month, he graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor's degree in psychology and secondary education, and he is a two-time Academic All-GNAC honoree on track to receive his third award.

Margiatto has contributed to Regis' success on the track over the past two years, scoring for the Pride at the 2022 GNAC Indoor Championships by finishing fourth in the 400 meter dash (54.20 seconds) as well as at the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Championships by finishing fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.71) and fifth in the 400 meter dash (54.37 seconds).

This year, he broke through to earn All-GNAC honors at the 2023 GNAC Outdoor Championships with a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:02.09, plus he contributed to second place finishes in both the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay. Margiatto, majoring in sport management, was also recognized for his hard work as a member of the gameday staff with the inaugural Regis Athletics Student Worker of the Year Award.

Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‐America® ballot. First‐, second-, and third‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced Thursday, June 29.
