Brett Kiesel Earns USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - After setting new school records in the javelin throw and decathlon, Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.), recent Regis College graduate, has been named All-East Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in both events, as the entire All-Region list was announced by the national organization Friday, May 19, 2023.

Kiesel finished fifth in the East Region in the javelin throw after breaking his own school record in the event at the Regis Pre-Conference Meet April 22 with a throw of 57.93 meters (190' 1") on his sixth and final attempt. Overall, he ended up in 29th place in Division III in the javelin throw.

In the decathlon, Kiesel placed third in the East Region after compiling a school-record score of 5,608 points at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship May 4-5. He finished second in the event at the meet to earn All-New England honors as he improved upon his previous best score by 254 points.

Kiesel is a 10-time All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honoree, starting with six top-three finishes at the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships as he totaled 42 points for the Pride. He finished third in the shot put at the 2023 GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, and then he collected 28 points for the Pride at the 2023 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing second in the shot put and javelin throw, third in the pole vault, fourth in the discus throw, and fifth in the 400 meter dash.

Kiesel was also one of Regis' top performers in the classroom, earning the 2022-23 Regis Athletics Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Earlier this month, he graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor's degree in psychology and secondary education, and he is a two-time Academic All-GNAC honoree on track to receive his third award.

Kiesel becomes the first Regis College student-athlete, male or female, to receive USTFCCCA All-Region recognition for outdoor track and field since Fatima St. Hilaire earned All-Region honors in the long jump and triple jump in 2019. He is one of four GNAC competitors to collect 2023 USTFCCCA All-Region accolades along with Chase Adams and Ashley Keleher of Colby-Sawyer College and Dylan Dickey of Saint Joseph's College.

Regis College sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, including men's outdoor track and field, within NCAA Division III as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
