ISRAEL CAPS SEASON AT ECAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTON, Mass.-Competing at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, Regis College freshman sprinter Jeremy Israel (Medfield, Mass.) capped his inaugural indoor season with a grand finale. Held this year at the Armory Track in New York City, the ECAC meet featured indoor squads from Maryland to Maine, with over 62 teams scoring and plenty of stiff competition for the Israel to compete against.

Slated to race in the 500-meter dash, Israel qualified for the competition with a 1:06.85s performance set at the Harvard Invitational this past December. His time ranked him outside of the top 12 qualifiers, seeding him outside of the fastest section. Surprising many in the race, Israel took control of the lead in his heat of six and never relinquished it, fighting off a last dash effort from other competitors in the home-stretch. His final time of 1:05.40s set a new school record, and stood as the fastest performance of the day to that point. Upon the completion of the last, ranked heat of the day, only two athletes posted times better, placing Israel third for the meet overall. Israel's bronze medal also asserts him as the highest ranked Pride track & field athlete (male or female) in the past 10 years within the region for Division III schools.
