REGIS TRACK AND FIELD HOSTS PRIDE CLASSIC

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Outdoor Track & Field Team wrapped-up their regular season this weekend with their annual home meet: The Regis Pride Classic Invitational. Even with blustery winds and temperatures in the 50s, the competition stayed fierce, producing great performances for a number of athletes.

Gionfriddo and Schow Top off their Seasons
The top marks of the meet for the Pride came at the start and end of the competition, delivered by the Pride's resident male thrower and female distance runner. Freshman Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) capped off his rookie season with his farthest toss of the year. His final mark of 12.58 meters (41' 3 ¼") broke his own school record by almost a foot, as well as placed him 2nd in the meet. Sophomore Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.) dropped almost seven seconds off of her previous best in the 3,000-meter run with a new personal record of 12:35.80 minutes. The mark leaves her just shy of breaking into the top-5 all-time performances for Regis athletes.

Top places for the Pride included Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) winning the vault in a jump-off with a mark of 2.75 meters, Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.) winning the 100-meter dash (11.85s) and also finished 3rd in the 200-meters (23.75s), Jeremy Israel (Medfield, Mass.) finishing 3rd in the 400-meters (51.43s) and 2nd in the 200-meters (23.55s). The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Davis, Israel, Gionfriddo and Ryan Manning (Hanover, Mass.) also placed first with a school record time of 45.10s.

Next week, qualifying athletes will compete at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at MIT. Israel will compete in the open 400-meters, and join his relay members in the 4x100, while Rapsis will compete in the pole vault for the second year in a row.
