PRIDE PERFROMS WELL AT TUFTS MEET

Medford, Mass.-The Regis College men’s and women’s Indoor track &field teams returned to action at the Tufts Invitational on January 14th. Nearing the end of their final conditioning phase, fatigued bodies and a heavy training period still couldn’t keep the men from setting two new records and women posting positive marks.

On the men’s side freshman sprinter Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.) established a new mark in the men’s 400-meter dash. This mark was previously held by teammate Jeremy Israel (Medfield, Mass.) Davies broke Israel’s mark (52.80s) by a slim margin, speeding to a 52.77s performance. If both athletes stay healthy, it’s likely the record will continue to be traded back and forth for the rest of the season. Also notching a record was freshman Owen McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) adding a third record-setting performance to his name. McQuaid posted the men’s first performance in the 5,000meter run with a time of 18:53min.

Other notable men’s performances included Alex Tran (Lawrence, Mass.) setting a new personal best in the 60-meter dash and Ryan Manning (Hanover, Mass.) in the 600-meter run (just shy of tying the school’s record currently held by Lucas McCann). Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.)excelled in the shot put setting his second best mark of the year.

On the women’s side, top performances included Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) vaulting to 2.75meters in the vault, Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.) running her 2nd best 5,000-meter to date in 22:38min.
The Pride will be in full force this Sunday at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.
