RAPSIS RANKED FIFTH IN NEW ENGLAND, MORE PERSONAL BESTS SET AT HARVARD

BOSTON, Mass.—Competing in their final meet of the fall semester, the Regis College Indoor Track & Field Team travelled to Harvard University for a long and lengthy contest. In spite of the long wait between events, the team stayed focused and performed just as well as they did in their inaugural meet of the year.

Two more records were rewritten at Harvard, the first in the men’s 800-meter run. Freshman Lucas McCann (Framingham, MA) posted a time of 2:11.46 in his first attempt at the event, ranking him 38th on the Division 3 New England Indoor Track & Field performance list.  McCann bettered the former record (held by Chan Chim since 2008) of 2:13.65 by nearly two seconds. The other record broken was by the Pride’s first vaulter, Tori Rapsis (Nashua, NH), crushing her week-old record by over 6 inches, improving to 9’6 ¼”. Rapsis’ clearance ranks her 5th in the D3 New England indoor rankings.

Other highlights from the meet included freshman stand-out sprinter Adam Heathman (Oxbow, VT) racing his first 200-meter race of the year. His time of 23.55s just missed the school’s current record and qualifying for D3 New Englands; however his time does rank him 5th on the D3 New England indoor performance list, with the next four performers merely tenths faster. With only early preparation work done, Heathman, and the rest of the squad are already posting huge performance, signaling a tremendous 2nd half of the year to come.

Sprinters Ana Baker (Hartford, CT) and Deborah Cesar (Milton, MA) raced strong opening races in their respective events (the 60meter and 200meter dashes), with times of 9.08s and 8.98s and then 30.36s and 29.49s (indoor personal bests for both of the athletes).

Other highlighted events for the Pride included Kate Haslam (Atkinson, NH) in the 500 and 200-meter dashes, and Sarah Schow (Northborough, MA) racing her first 3,000-meter race. Haslam’s time in the 500 would rank her 3rd on the all-time Regis College performance list if she already didn’t possess the 3rd fastest time; while Schow’s first race signaled a solid performance by the freshman distance runner.

The Pride will return after winter break January 15th for the Tufts Invitational.
