REGIS COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD OPENS INDOOR SEASON

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College track and field team will compete in its first indoor meet of the winter season Saturday (Dec. 4) at Northeastern University. The Pride is a young team but what they lack for in college experience they make up for in hard work and determination. The Pride has been training all fall to get in shape for the indoor season.  This strong effort will help the Pride with its indoor and outdoor seasons.

The Pride has a strong schedule this season. They will be competing in a combination of DIII and DI events. The Pride will be competing against Tufts, MIT, and Springfield who all rank in the top 25 of track and field teams in DIII.    The Pride will be competing in the categories of throwing, vaulting, sprinting, and distance events. This will be the first season that the Pride will compete in the pole-vault competition.  Freshmen Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H. /Nashua) and Katherine Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) look to lead the Pride in the vault competition.

On the women’s side, the Pride will be led by seniors Samantha Lafrance (Savoy, Mass./Hoosac Valley ) and Kate Haslam (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane) who bring upper-class experience.   The Pride has its sights set on the record books; past top performances is what is motivating the Pride this season. On the men’s side the Pride will be led in throwing by Nathan Fagundo (Newton, Mass./Boston Trinity Academy) and freshman Bobby Ryan (Reading, Mass./Reading) who look to set new personal bests in their respective categories.

The Pride will continue through the indoor season finishing with the winter championships at MIT in February. The Pride will then transition to its spring schedule which opens at Northeastern at the Husky spring Open.   The Pride will compete in the spring at Brown and Tufts and hope to place members in the Division III New England championship held on May 7th.
