Men's Track and Field Opens Spring Season in Connecticut

MEET RESULTS

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. The Regis College Men's Track and Field team opened their outdoor season today at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) kicked off the spring season with a strong performance, securing a fourth-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:04.52. Teammate Brian LaPorte (Bridgewater, Mass.) followed, finishing 11th overall with a time of 2:12.47, marking personal bests for both the junior and the first-year athlete. The duo also contributed to the top-finishing 4x400 relay team, along with Christopher Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) and Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.), who crossed the line in the top spot at 3:32.53. Margiatto added an eighth-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.51.

Stogsdill rounded out his impressive day on the track with a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay, alongside Happenny, Justin Thoutte (Lebanon, Conn.), and Zachary Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.), finishing with a time of 44.77 seconds.

In the field events, Thoutte placed fifth in the triple jump, recording a distance of 12.38 meters while Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 51.34 meters.First-years Jalen Jones and Joseph Doughty Woburn, Mass.) secured seventh and eighth place in the men's high jump, with marks of 1.70m and 1.65m, respectively, in their first outdoor meet in the crimson and gold.

Ryan Sweeney (Lynn, Mass.) contributed the other top-ten finish in the field for the Pride, placing tenth in the shot put with a distance of 12.53 meters, which marked an outdoor personal best for the sophomore.

The Pride are back on the track a week from today when they head to Medford, Massachusetts for the Tufts Snowflake Classic with events starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th.
