HENNICKER, N.H. – Regis College took an early lead but struggled to maintain momentum as New England College surged ahead for an 83-60 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action Tuesday night at Bridges Gymnasium.

The Pride opened with a 7-2 advantage behind a jumper from Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.), a three-pointer from Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.), and two free throws from Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.). However, the Pilgrims responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game before closing the first quarter ahead 30-16.

New England College extended its lead in the second quarter, capitalizing on three-pointers from Ajayah Lively, Mackenzie McDonald, and Kaira Creary. A layup by Macy Gordon pushed the Pilgrims' advantage to 56-30 at halftime.

Both teams traded three-pointers to start the third quarter before NEC edged Regis 12-10 in the period, taking a 68-40 lead into the fourth. The Pride outscored the Pilgrims 20-15 in the final frame, shooting 7-for-16 from the field, but could not overcome the deficit.

Zancan led Regis with 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists, while Marinelli added 11 points, one assist, and one steal. NEC had four players in double figures, with Abigail Lacy pacing the team with 15 points.

Regis (5-14, 4-5 GNAC) visits Rivier University on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 12 p.m. New England College (9-11, 3-6 GNAC) travels to Mitchell College for a 3 p.m. matchup the same day.
