WESTON, Mass. – A dominant offensive performance propelled the Regis College women's basketball team to an 87-64 victory over Colby-Sawyer in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Tuesday at Higgins Court.
Regis set the tone early, outscoring the Chargers 26-12 in the first quarter and 15-5 in the second to take a commanding 41-17 halftime lead. Colby-Sawyer found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 18 points at 41-23 after a layup by Marissa Holt. However, Regis responded with a surge, highlighted by layups from Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.), Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.), and Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.), as well as a three-pointer from Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.). In addition, a layup and free throw from Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) extended the Pride's lead to 56-29. The Chargers then put together a 14-7 run to trail by 20 heading into the final quarter.
Doherty opened the fourth with a three-pointer before Catherine Chick answered with a layup for the Chargers. Despite Colby-Sawyer's efforts, Regis maintained control, finishing with an efficient 45.5 percent shooting from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. The Pride closed out the game with an 87-64 victory.
Zancan led the Pride with a stellar all-around performance, tallying 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and a block.
