WESTON, Mass. – Regis College clinched a 62-58, Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Lasell University on Saturday at Higgins Court.
Lasell opened up the first quarter leading 13-6, just before the Pride responded with four consecutive baskets to tie the contest with 13 points at the start of the second quarter. The Lasers extended its offensive output with a 4-1 scoring run to lead with four. A free throw from Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) followed by two free throws from Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) would close the deficit by one point. The Lasers pulled away with a 3-2 run to finish the first half leading, 25-21.
Regis increased its momentum, starting the third quarter with a 7-1 run featuring five free throws and two layups to lead 30-29. The Lasers tied the contest at 30 points, however a three-pointer from Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and two free throws from Doherty would extend the Pride lead. Regis continued to add pressure for the remainder of the quarter to take the lead and finish the third quarter at 41-36.
With just two minutes remaining in the final quarter, Lasell closed its deficit to catchup and tie the game at 51 points. The Pride finished the quarter with a 10-4 run, finishing with a 62-58 victory over Lasell.
Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) led the Pride with 25 points, six rebounds with one assist and one steal. Marinelli followed with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals for the Pride, while Doherty contributed 11 points with six rebounds, while shooting 7-for-8 at the free throw line.
Dseserae Williamson finished with 10 points for the Lasers, while Shirle Major collected eight points.
Regis (5-13, 4-4 GNAC) is set to travel to face New England College on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5:00 p.m.
Lasell (10-10, 5-4 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday, Feb. 4, to face the Wildcats starting at 5:30 p.m.
