STANDISH, Maine. - Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, 72-41, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's collegiate basketball game at Mike McDevitt Court.
Saint Joseph's College (8-4) scored the first 13 points of the game, featuring two three-pointers from Logan Brown. Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) responded with a three-pointer putting the Pride on the board, followed by a jumper from Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) extending its output. Regis would go on a 5-4 scoring run to close out the first quarter, trailing by 13 points, at 23-10.
The Monks scored first in the second quarter with a three-pointer from Lindsay Fiorillo followed by a jumper by Grace Ramsdell to extend the Monks lead. Both teams would exchange a three-pointer in the third minute of action just before a pair of free throws from Elisabeth Stapelfeld would increase the Monks offensive advantage. Regis finished the first half with a 2-3 scoring run, with Doherty scoring the last basket of the half on a free throw, to trail 39-20, heading into the third quarter.
Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) opened the third quarter with a jumper followed by a good free-throw attempt after a foul on the Monks. The Monks contributed three unanswered points just before another jumper from Marinelli would bring the Pride within 19 points at 44-25. The Monks increased its offensive output to finish the third quarter leading 58-33.
The Monks outscored the Pride 14-8 in the final quarter, resulting in a 72-41 final.
Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) led the Pride with 11 points, and 10 rebounds for a double-double with three steals. Jillian Perry (Melrose, Mass.) and Marinelli earned eight points and one assist each.
Ramsdell led the Monks with 21 points, followed by Brown contributing 11 points.
Regis (1-10, 1-1 GNAC) is scheduled to host Anna Maria College on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3:00 p.m. Saint Joseph's College (8-4, 1-1 GNAC) is set to travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, Jan. 11, with a 1:00 p.m. start.
