ATLANTA, Ga. – The Regis College women's basketball team has earned Special Mention by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as the national organization announced the 2023-24 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls Wednesday, July 24.
With head coach Samantha Crough at the helm of the program, the Pride finished the 2023-24 academic year with a 3.348 cumulative grade point average, earning Special Mention status for having at least a 3.0 combined GPA and qualifying for consideration for the top 25 in Division III. In total, 120 Division III programs received Special Mention after the top 25 was determined, including three teams from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC): Colby-Sawyer College, Regis College, and Saint Joseph's College.
The Pride were led in the classroom by six members of the 2023-24 roster who were selected Academic All-GNAC last month: Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.), Haley Lightbody (Reading, Mass.), Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.), Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.), and Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.). In addition, Lightbody, Marinelli, and Zancan were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team in March.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
Regis College sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports, including women's basketball, within NCAA Division III as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
