Regis Clinches Conference Win against Norwich University, 69-64

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College defeated Norwich University 69-64, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game Wednesday night at Higgins Court.

Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I) led the Pride with 20 points and six rebounds, while Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) had 16 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

Jordyn Striggles (Raynham, Mass.) scored the first basket of the game for the Pride, just before Erika Thomas made a three-point jump shot for the Cadets. After a defensive rebound from Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), Zancan made a jump shot to lead the Pride 17-15 into the second quarter.

The Pride continued to apply pressure in the third quarter with a team defensive rebound shortly after Ayala scored a free throw to extend the Pride lead.

Norwich continued to apply offensive pressure in the third quarter starting with a layup from Ellie Collins to close the deficit. Maren McGinn led the Cadets in the third quarter with six points, two rebounds and one assist.

The Cadets gained offensive momentum with seven points from Siobhan O'Donnell in the final quarter but were unable to maintain against the Pride defense.

McGinn finished for the Cadets with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists while Haley Brewster totaled 13 points with seven rebounds and four assists.

Regis (6-10, 4-1 GNAC) travels to face the University of Saint Joseph Saturday, Jan. 20, starting at 1 p.m. Norwich University hosts Dean College Saturday at 3 p.m. for its next Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
