Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Big Win

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Regis College concluded the 2023 regular season with an 82-36 victory over Dean College Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball game at Pieri Gymnasium.

Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) led the Pride with 21 points, seven steals, six assists, and five rebounds while Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.) scored a career-high 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) added 16 points while Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with eight points.

The Pride narrowly outscored the Bulldogs in the first quarter before taking charge in the second, outscoring Dean in the period by a margin of 20-6. A layup by Doherty with just over four minutes remaining in the half started a 13-0 scoring run, ending with another Doherty layup at the beginning of the third quarter.

Regis continued to control the game in the second half, allowing just two points to Dean in the fourth quarter while going on a 20-2 scoring run in the period. A jumper by Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) at the beginning of the fourth jumpstarted the run which was capped off with a layup by Zancan to finish scoring for the night.

Tori Viau led the Bulldogs with 16 points. The Pride forced 38 turnovers and scored 47 points off turnovers throughout the contest, including 13 points off the fastbreak. Regis also dominated in the paint, scoring 48 points in the paint compared to 14 for Dean.

Regis College (12-12, 12-6 GNAC) plays in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals as the S2 seed, taking on the N3 seed Rivier University Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Higgins Court beginning at 7:30 p.m.
