Balanced Team Effort Leads to Women's Hoop Victory
WESTON, Mass. - Regis College had three players scoring over 10 points on its way to a 67-47 victory over Lasell University Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Higgins Court.
 
Regis played a balanced game with multiple players contributing to the win. Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) and Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.) each scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Gonzalez added five steals. Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) scored 11 points for the Pride while Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) and Arie Searcy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) each scored eight points, with Whalen also contributing a team-high 11 rebounds.
 
A three-pointer from Doherty halfway through the first quarter opened the floodgates for the Pride as they outscored the visitors, 21-13, in the first period. Regis maintained the lead in the second quarter with Gonzalez putting up six of her 15 points in the period, ending the first half ahead 34-25.
 
The Pride carried the momentum into the second half, taking a 19-point lead at 52-33, on a layup from Pacheco with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Pride continued their dominance into the fourth quarter, outscoring Lasell, 14-10, in the period to extend their lead to 20 points by the time the final buzzer sounded.
 
Meg Carroll paved the way for Lasell, scoring 14 points while managing to grab six rebounds. Jasmine DePina added nine points while Peyton Young contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Pride shot 28-for-62 (45.2 percent) on the night compared to Lasell's 21-for-61 (34.4 percent). Regis also outrebounded their opponent, 42-34, including 14 offensive boards which led to 19 second-chance points. The Pride forced 20 turnovers leading to an additional 29 points. The Regis bench was a major contributor on the night, scoring 21 of the team's 67 points.
 
Regis (10-8, 9-3 GNAC) next hosts Norwich for Senior Night Thursday, Feb. 17, beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Lasell (8-14, 6-10 GNAC) travels to Johnson & Wales on the same day with tip-off also scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
