WINTHROP, Mass. – Regis College freshman guard Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Gonzalez played 32 minutes in each game during the past week as Regis returned to competition, averaging 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 5.5 steals in a 1-1 stretch. On Thursday in a 50-27 win over Becker, she overcame a subpar shooting performance by contributing with six rebounds, three assists, and seven steals.
On Saturday against Brandeis, one of the top teams in the region this season, she scored a season-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including three three-pointers, and 4-of-5 shooting from the free throw line. Gonzalez also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out three assists, and collected four steals.
For the season, Gonzalez is now fourth in the GNAC and 50th in all of Division III with 3.1 steals per game. She leads the Pride in scoring and rebounding with 12.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, reaching double figures in scoring seven times so far this year, including in four of the past five games.
Regis (6-7) opens its GNAC schedule Saturday, Jan. 11, at Albertus Magnus for a 1 p.m. tip-off. The Pride will play their next four games on the road before returning to Higgins Court to host preseason GNAC favorite Emmanuel Saturday, Jan. 25, starting at 2 p.m.
