Pride Defeat Former Conference Rival

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's basketball team defeated Becker College, 50-27, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Higgins Court.

Senior Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) earned her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 12 points while adding 10 rebounds. Nikki Bitinaitis (Cromwell, Conn.) scored eight points and added seven rebounds, and Becker's Riley Berry led the Hawks in scoring with eight points.

The first points of the game came from a three-point jumper by the Hawks' Sarah Ware. Mackenzie Emery (Standish, Maine) then responded 14 seconds later with a three-pointer of her own. After Becker jumped out to a 10-7 lead with 4:04 remaining in the first quarter, the Pride went on an eight-point run to go up by 5 with 2:11 remaining, leading to the Pride closing out the quarter ahead, 19-13.

In the second quarter both teams were held to single figures in scoring with Regis outscoring the Hawks 6-3 in the frame. The Pride held a 25-16 lead at the half.

Arie Searcy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) started the third quarter receiving a pass from Emery and then driving to the basket for the layup. Taylor Iorfino (Monroe, Conn.) followed with a jumper a few minutes later, putting the Pride up 13. Regis outscored the Hawks in the third quarter to extend their lead to 16. The Pride closed out the contest outscoring Becker 15-8 in the final frame.

The Pride outrebounded the Hawks 58-38, and Regis also held a 14-11 edge in steals. As a team the Pride assisted on 14 of their 16 baskets from the field.

Becker (2-8, 1-0 NECC) will play Lesley in a NECC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 4, on the road before playing Mitchell at home on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Regis (6-6, 0-0 GNAC) will face off against Brandeis at Higgins Court on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. before taking on Albertus Magnus Saturday, Jan. 11, in New Haven, Conn.
