QUINCY, Mass. – Marissa Prall (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) both led the Pride with 16 points each, but it was not enough as the Regis College women's basketball team fell 94-74 in non-conference play Saturday afternoon at Eastern Nazarene.
Mackenzie Emery (Standish, Maine) added 14 points, five assists, and three steals, and Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) added another 12 points.
The Pride jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the first quarter, but Eastern Nazarene hit a pair of three-pointers to tie the game at 8-8. The Lions' Stevie Orton then made a jumper sparking a run that led to the Lions holding a 12-point lead with 1:21 remaining in the quarter.
Just 17 seconds later, Prall hit a three-pointer and Taylor Iorfino (Monroe, Conn.) followed with a jumper to shrink the deficit to seven, ending the first quarter with Eastern Nazarene in front, 25-18.
At the start of the second quarter, Prall hit her second three-pointer of the contest shrinking the Lions lead to four. Shannon Chau then scored six of the next eight points for the Lions, helping to increase the Lions' lead to 12. Going into the halftime break the Lions held a nine-point advantage.
Regis brought the game to within seven with 7:09 remaining in the third quarter, but Stevie Orton made a layup that sparked the Lion offense as they brought the lead back to double digits to close the third quarter. Eastern Nazarene outscored Regis 29-21 in the fourth quarter to finish the game.
Stevie Orton led all scoring in the contest with 21 points for the Lions with Kyra Fleharty following with 20 points.
Eastern Nazarene (6-1) will not play until Saturday, Jan. 4 when they take on Elms to begin conference play.
Regis (5-6) will be off until Thursday, Jan. 2 taking on Becker at Higgins Court in their first game of the New Year at noon. They will then host Brandeis on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. before beginning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on the road Saturday, Jan. 11 at Albertus Magnus.
