WINTHROP, Mass. - For the first time of the 2017-18 season, Regis (Mass.) women's basketball freshman Nikki Bitinaitis (Cromwell, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Bitinaitis is the second Pride women's basketball player to receive a GNAC Weekly Honor this season, joining four-time GNAC Player of the Week Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.).
Bitinaitis was vital to the Pride’s 2-1 week, averaging 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists. She had 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win over Rivier and closed out the first quarter against JWU with a buzzer-beater from beyond half court. She had 13 point and four assists in a key victory over Suffolk and shot 47.8% (11-23 FG, 5-9 3PT) overall.
Bitinaitis and the Pride will return to the court for three GNAC games this week, starting with a home matchup against St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Tuesday at Higgins Court.
