Women's Basketball Tops Anna Maria, Remains Perfect In GNAC Play

WESTON, Mass.Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) delivered a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) equaled a game-high 18 points and the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team continued its perfect league start with a 76-54 win over Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Monday night at Higgins Court.

Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for Anna Maria, posting a double double of her own with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kristina Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) and Hailey Moore (Worcester, Mass.) added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

D'Angelo also dished out seven assists for the Pride, finishing just three shy of reaching a triple double.

Stone made her presence known early with eight points as part of a 12-0 Regis run to start the game. Anna Maria got on the board 2:25 into the game on a Hammond layup but the lead continued to swell as the Pride (3-3, 2-0 GNAC) went up 34-17 after one quarter of play.

Anna Maria (1-7, 0-2 GNAC) kept pace for the early part of the second quarter. A three pointer by Russo and a layup from Deyarna Achille (Boston, Mass.) kept the Regis lead at 17 points but eventually the advantage would swell to as many as 24 before the Pride took a 51-25 lead into halftime.

Regis came out of the locker with a strong defensive effort, holding the AMCats to without a field goal for the first 3:18 of the period. Meanwhile, the Pride kept it going on offense, extending the lead to as many as 38 points and winning going away.

The Pride closes out 2017 this Thursday, Dec. 14 hosting Framingham State at 6:00 p.m. Next up for the AMCats is the Coastal Classic hosted by Bowdoin College Dec. 29 and 30.
