HAWKESWORTH, THREE POINTERS CARRY PRIDE TO EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN

NEW LONDON, Conn. – A third-quarter, three-point barrage propelled Regis College to a 78-47 victory at Mitchell College on Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

Regis led 34-17 at halftime but pulled away for good behind a 7-for-9 effort from long range in the third quarter. The Pride ended the contest with season highs in three-pointers (9) and three-point field goal percentage (.500).

Regis' Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) led all scorers with 21 points and added eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Alyssa Lanpher (Princeton, Mass.) finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Amanda Garcia (New Britain, Conn.) led Mitchell with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Diamond Thomas (Hartford, Conn.) added nine points while Savannah Boyle (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in eight.

Hawkesworth scored 15 points in the opening half as the Pride never trailed. Down by eight with 4:39 remaining in the half, Mitchell went cold and missed on its final seven shot attempts of the stanza. Regis closed the half on a 10-1 run to extend the lead to 17 at the break.

The Mariners scored on their first two possessions of the second half to cut the deficit to 34-22 in the opening minute. The Pride then began bombing away from beyond the arc, with Lanpher, Miah Andrews (Milton, Mass.) and Maura Russell (Braintree, Mass.) each draining a pair of treys in the period. Chayla Louro (Randolph, Mass.) connected on the final deep ball of the quarter to extend the lead to 62-31 heading into the fourth.

Regis shot 48 percent for the game and owned a 37-26 advantage on the glass. The Pride also registered an assist on 23 of 29 field goals and forced 26 turnovers.

Mitchell (7-8 overall, 6-4 NECC) will next host Elms College on Saturday, January 30 at 3 p.m. Regis (15-2 overall, 11-0 NECC), which has won eight straight games, returns to action at Daniel Webster College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
