WESTON, Mass. – Sophomore guard Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) had a career-day as the Regis College women's basketball team earned their third straight victory as they defeated non-conference opponent Western Connecticut State University 69-56 in a game the Pride never trailed on Tuesday evening. The win propels the Pride to 3-1 on the campaign and the loss evens the Colonials record at 2-2.

Hayes' grade a performance was the best of her young career as she recorded her first career double-double with a personal best 17 points, 10 rebounds and committed four steals.

Regis started the contest scoring six straight points as Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) was a force to be reckoned with. Hawkeswork buried a baseline jumper from teammate Mikayla Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.), Murphy proceeded to feed Hawkesworth down low for her next points and then the junior captain gobbled up an Alyssa Lanpher (Princeton, Mass.) missed three-ball, put the ball on the ground, then went up strong off the glass capping off a strong first two minutes of the contest.

Hawkesworth then built the lead up to a first quarter high 13 points as she converted another layup from the baseline. However, the Colonials would respond as Emily Dobson (Westerly, R.I.) buried a three-pointer and Alyssa Eannotti (Shelton, Conn.) made a pair of freebies to cut the deficit to 10, 22-12 at the end of one.

Regis kept their foot on the gas in the second stanza as they secured their largest lead of the contest as newcomer Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) scored her first career collegiate points when she made a three-pointer to give the Crimson and Gold a 38-24 advantage at the halfway point.

WCSU started off the second half cutting the Regis lead to seven points by using a quick 7-0 run over two minutes of play. Emily Dobson converted a mid-range jumper, Kayla Croswell (Norwalk, Conn.) hit a layup and then Dobson forced a steal that setup a Kaitlyn LaBonte (S. Windsor, Conn.) shot from beyond the arc to cut their deficit to 38-31 with 8:09 to play.

Croswell converted another layup from underneath and split a pair of free throws to come within four points, 46-42 with 3:42 to play and the Colonials went into the final period trailing by six, 50-44 after a Kerri Stolle (Warren, Conn.) layup.

The Colonials opened up the fourth quarter with a Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, N.Y.) three-ball to make it a three point game just 15 seconds into the last stanza. Regis responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.

Amanda Hawkesworth led all scorers with 18 points, Mikayla Murphy had another near double-double tallying 11 points, and seven assists. Alyssa Lanpher scored seven points and added six rebounds while Abby Cuddy (Charlestown, R.I.) scored her first career points, tallying six off the bench in 12 minutes of play.

For the Colonials, Kayla Croswell led the squad with 13 points and five helpers while Jancy Sherwood came off the bench and scored 11 points.

Regis returns to action after Thanksgiving break with their first conference matchup of the season against Mitchell College on Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m.
