RODRIGUEZ NETS 20 IN PRIDE WIN

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior guard Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, MA) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Regis College women's basketball team to a 67-28 victory over host Wheelock College this evening in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest at Brunelli Court on the campus of Pine Manor College.

The Pride win their 13th straight game, marking the second longest streak in program history - moving past the 12-straight wins by the 1996-1997 Pride hoops squad. Regis now stands at 18-4 overall and a perfect 15-0 in NECC play, while the Wildcats fall to 2-20 and 2-13. The Regis defense forced 21 turnovers and outscored its host, 30-4, in points off turnovers, while holding Wheelock to just 18.9% (10-53) from the floor.

Junior Randi Davis (Wilmington, Mass.) knocked down a three-pointer at the 17:08 mark of the first half to give the Wildcats a 3-2 edge, but it would be their only lead of the night as the Pride put together a 17-2 run to take a commanding 19-5 advantage with 9:16 to play in the opening half. Senior guard Sarah McCaffrey (East Taunton, Mass.) drained a three-pointer to spark six unanswered points and pull the Wildcats to within 31-13 with 4:02 to go in the half. The Pride took a 33-15 lead into the intermission.

Regis didn't let up in the second half, scoring the first 16 points of the period, paced by six points from Rodriguez, to take a 49-15 advantage with 13:41 remaining in the contest. Wheelock put together a 10-2 stretch over the next four-plus minutes to cut the deficit to 51-25, but the Pride closed out the contest on a 16-3 blitz to finish the victory.

Rodriguez was an efficient 8-for-11 from the floor and added eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a blocked shot in 25 minutes for Regis, while sophomore guard Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) dropped in 10 points, handed out a game-high seven assists, grabbed five boards and came up with four steals in 18 minutes. Junior forward Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist in 16 minutes of action.

McCaffrey finished with seven points to lead the Wildcats and added four rebounds, two steals and an assist, while junior guard Jessica Ramsey (Milford, Mass.) came off the bench to hit a pair of three-pointers for six points to go with a pair of rebounds in 17 minutes.

Both teams will be back in action on Monday, February 11; the Pride will host Becker College at 6:00 p.m., while Wheelock host Elms College at 8:00 p.m.
