MARRO NETS CAREER-BEST 25 IN WIN OVER NEWBURY

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Regis College's Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) poured in a career-high 25 points to help lead the Pride to a 64-39 victory over Newbury College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action on Tuesday night.

Sophomore forward Kim Daniels (Jaffrey, N.H.) helped Regis jump out to a quick, 11-2 lead, knocking down two treys within the first four minutes of the contest, but Newbury was resilient and mounted a comeback of their own. After ripping down a defensive board off a missed lay-up by Marro, first year forward Elyse O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) sparked a 12-2 run with a lay-up at the 15-minute mark. Nearly three minutes later, sophomore guard Nephie Marsh (Brockton, Mass.) capitalized on a Pride turnover and capped off the run draining a mid-range jumper to give the Nighthawks the 14-13 advantage and force the Pride to call their first time-out.

Coming out of the timeout, Marro ignited a five-minute run with a lay-up in the paint to put the Pride back up by nine, 24-15, with just over six minutes left to play. However, junior guard Kwanasia Fredricks (Harlem, N.Y.) found Marsh at the perimeter to break up the 11-1 run and to cut the deficit back down to a manageable, six point, two-possession game. The Nighthawks trimmed the lead down to four when senior center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) knocked down a jumper. But that was as close as Newbury got in the half as Regis pulled way once again and went into the locker room the eight-point, 31-23 lead.

When the teams returned to the court at the start of the second half, Regis began to pull away. Netting six of the Pride's eight points during an 8-0 run to open the period, Marro capped off the run with steal then taking it back down court for the fast-break layup to extend the Pride's lead to 39-23. The New Hampshire native continued to remain red-hot from the field, netting 7-of-10, in the second half for 14 of her game-high 25 points.

Sophomore center Monet Lowe (Framingham, Mass.) followed up Marro registering a double-double, tallying 14 points and 13 rebounds while dishing out three assists – second only to Marro, who recorded a game-high four assists.

Coming off the bench, first year guard Alex Pezzella (Rockland, Mass.) led the Nighthawks, shooting 4-for-9 from the floor – including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc – for a team-high 11 points. Marsh was right in step with her fellow South Shore native, finishing the night with nine points.

Newbury falls to 6-3 in the conference and 8-8 overall while Regis remains perfect in NECC action improving to 9-0 and 12-4 overall. The Pride will be in action on Saturday when they travel to New London, Conn. for a 1:00 p.m. tilt against Mitchell College.
