PRIDE DOUBLE-UP ON BLAZERS, 74-37

WESTON, Mass. – In a showdown between the New England Collegiate Conference's first and second place teams, the Regis College women's basketball team showed just why they are undefeated in league play, dominating the Elms College Blazers, 74-37 on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Court. The win moves the Pride to 11-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in league play, while the Blazers fall to 7-8, 6-2 NECC.

The Pride came out of the gates strong, jumping to a commanding 13-0 lead, with points coming from Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.), Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine), Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.), and Monet Lowe (Framingham, Mass.). After shooting 0-for-13 from the field to open the half, the Blazers finally scored their first points at the 9:06 minute mark when Jen Normandie (Westford, Mass.) sank a jumper to get her team on the scoreboard.

Elms' leading scorer Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) led the way for the visitors in the opening half, knocking down eight points. Ramonas would finish the half with eight points herself to lead the way for the Pride, while Rodriguez came up big on the boards with seven rebounds, as the Crimson & Gold entered the locker room with a 34-19 lead.

In the second half, the Blazers did their best to cut the deficit, but offensive struggles continued to plague the visitors, as they shot just 26.9% from the field in the game. The Pride would also punish the Blazers for mishandling of the ball, scoring 28 of their points off of 25 Elms' turnovers.

The Blazers could not find the answer to stop Ramonas, who had a standout game for the Pride, finishing with a game-high 16 points on 8-for-12 shooting. The junior forward also added eight rebounds, six steals, one block, and one assist.

Kim Daniels (Jaffrey, N.H.) was second in scoring for the Pride with 11 points, while Lowe was a point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing ten rebounds. Marro added 10 points of her own, as well as a game-high five assists, and one steal.

Despite a quiet second half with just one point, Parks finished with a team-high nine points to go along with five rebounds, and two assists. Normandie and Ellen Donohue (Southington, Conn.) added eight points apiece for the Blazers in the losing effort.

The Pride will be seeking their seventh consecutive victory as they travel to Newbury on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. while Elms will host Southern Vermont at 6:00 p.m., also on Tuesday.
