BALANCED ATTACK LEADS PRIDE OVER SVC, 63-40

BENNINGTON, Vt. – A balanced scoring attack helped Regis College to a 63-40 win at Southern Vermont College on Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action. Despite only one player reaching double-digits for the Pride, the bench accounted for 30 points on the night.

Regis started strong and put the Mountaineers on their heels, taking an 8-0 advantage out of the gate. SVC maintained its composure and was able to start gaining offense of its own while stepping up the defense and climbed back to make the score 8-7 after freshman Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) scored a three-pointer. Flagg would go on to score a game-high 20 points for the Mountaineers in the losing effort.

Midway through the first half, the Pride opened the game up with the help of three-straight conversions on offense during a 17-0 run, eventually finding themselves up 25-7. Regis was led in the first half by sophomore guard Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.), who scored all 13 of her points in the opening stanza to give the Pride a 29-14 lead at the break.

The second half consisted of Regis maintaining its lead as the Mountaineers could not overcome the deficit. Freshman center Alli Conley (Winthrop, Maine) came off the bench to record eight points while freshman guard Nikki Strizzi (Old Lyme, Conn.) added seven of her own. Junior captain Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) led the team with 10 rebounds, five coming on the offensive end.

The Mountaineers were also led by Kala MacKenzie (Fair Haven, Vt.), who finished with her fourth double-double of the year, scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Javasha White (Schenectady, N.Y.) had 10 rebounds, four points and two assists off the bench for SVC.

Conference-leading Regis (7-4, 4-0 NECC) will attempt to stay perfect in league play Saturday when the Pride travel to Becker College for a 3:00 p.m. tip. The Mountaineers (1-10, 1-3 NECC) will try to bounce back Saturday when they visit Mitchell College for a 3:00 p.m. NECC matchup.
