BRUNSWICK, Maine – A second-half surge by the Regis College women's basketball team ultimately fell short, as Clark University handed the Pride a 67-54 loss in the opening round of the 2012 Bowdoin Holiday Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.

Three players reached double figures for the Cougars (7-2), who advance to Sunday's championship game against host Bowdoin at 4:00 p.m. The Pride (3-3) will play in the third-place game at 2:00 p.m. against Clarkson University.

Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) led all players with a game-high 18 points, while Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) pitched in 15 points and Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) posted 14 in the loss for Regis.

Ashleigh Condon (Hull, Mass.) scored 15 points and dished out eight assists in the win for Clark. Emily Reilly (Marlborough, Mass.) had 13 points and nine rebounds while Megan Grondin (Cumberland, Maine) added 13 for the victors.

Both teams enjoyed hot shooting in the early going, particularly the Pride, who connected on six of their first eight shots to take a 14-11 lead just six minutes into the game. The Cougars clamped down defensively and responded with a 14-1 surge, capped by a Grondin lay-in to take a 25-15 lead with eight minutes left in the period. Clark continued to pour it on, closing the half on a 13-1 run to carry a 38-18 lead into halftime.

Despite never relinquishing a double-digit lead, the Cougars had to carry several runs by the Pride, who got as close as 12 points in the second half. In the end, Clark held a decisive 39-29 edge on the glass and hit on 47 percent of its shots for the game, compared to 38 percent for Regis.
