#12 TUFTS ESCAPES FROM PRIDE

MEDFORD, Mass. – Trailing by one in the opening seconds of the second half, the #12 Tufts women's basketball team outscored Regis 44-23 overall in the period to run their record to 6-0 with a 73-51 victory against the Pride on Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gym.

Sophomore Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) recorded 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Jumbos.

Upset-minded Regis scored the game's first six points, all on free throws by sophomore Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.). The Jumbos would soon even the score at 8-8 and 10-10 before building a lead of nine points twice in the opening 20 minutes. Tufts led 26-17 on Kanner's layup with 4:30 to go until intermission.

Regis closed the half with an 11-3 run that had them within 29-28 at the break. Sophomore Janaya Bradley (New Haven, Conn.) scored six points during the stretch, including three free throws that she was awarded when she was fouled while launching a three-point attempt from mid-court with less than a second on the clock.

Marro had 16 points at the break for Regis, which was 10-for-10 from the line in the first half. Kanner's 11 points at halftime led the hosts, who turned the ball over 11 times in the first 20 minutes.

On the first play of the second half, Regis took a 30-29 advantage on a layup by junior co-captain Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine). The Jumbos scored 10 of the next 11 points, including a pair of threes from sophomore Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.). The Pride retaliated, and were within 39-36 after another Ramonas layup at the 15:47 mark.

Tufts began to pull away from there, initiating a 12-1 run that gave them a 14-point, 51-37 lead after a three-pointer by Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, N.Y.) at the 10:37 mark. She had two long-range shots during the span and Foley also had one. Regis twice cut the margin down to 11, but Tufts would lead by double figures the rest of the way.

Foley joined Kanner by producing on the scoreboard and glass, scoring 15 and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Senior co-captain Bre Dufault (Hampden, Mass.) finished with nine points and seven rebounds, sophomore Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, Calif.) totaled nine points with six assists, and junior Ali Rocchi (Fairfield, Conn.) put up sevens in points and rebounds. The Jumbos were +14 in rebounding and had 20 assists on 28 baskets.

Marro finished with a game-high 19 points to lead Regis, while also totaling a game-high with nine rebounds and adding two assists and two steals. Ramonas scored 13 points with seven rebounds, while Bradley had seven points, two assists and two steals.

Regis opens NECC play when they host Bay Path College on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. Tufts travels to Emerson for a non-league game on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
