WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's basketball team defeated Newbury College Tuesday night at the Teresa Higgins Gymnasium by the score of 85- 43. The victory moves the Pride to 10-3 overall on the season and 7-0 in NECC conference play. The visiting Nighthawks move to 7-7 overall on the season and 5-2 in NECC play.

Regis started the first period with a deep three-point shot from sophomore Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.). This would be the first of a 21 point run for the Pride as the offense pushed the tempo in the first five minutes of play. Five different Regis players would score during the run that included points from, Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.), Janaya Bradley (New Haven, Conn.), Teresa Busiek, and Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.).  

The Nighthawks put an end to the run at the 14 minute mark when Catherine O'Connell converted on a layup to make the score 21-2. This tally by O'Connell did not inhibit the Pride's offensive pace. Regis continued to pressure the Nighthawk defense with shots late in the first half. Alex Chace (North Easton, Mass.) hit a shot from behind the arc to make the Pride's final point of the half bringing the score to 45-22 at the intermission.

Newbury opened the second half with a three-point shot from Morganna Machado that went wide to cause a fast break opportunity for the Pride. The Nighthawks were led by Kendra Bannister and Shayla White who combined for 23 points on the game. O'Connell proved to be a defensive force in the back court for the Nighthawks by blocking four shots and causing four turnovers.  Out of her 11 rebounds on the game, O'Connell would secure eight on the defensive side of the ball.

Regis continued to push the ball on offense in the second half of play. Stefanie Wozmak (Auburn, N.H.), Marro, Crawford, Bradley, and Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) would all tally double digits in scoring by the end of the game. Ramonas racked up eight rebounds and caused four Nighthawk turnovers to record four steals for the Pride on defense. The Pride distributed the ball well all night allowing three players to tie for the team high in assists. Crawford, Marro, and freshman Dana Sparks (Orlando, Fla.) combined to tally 12 assists, with each notching four apiece.

The Crimson and Gold returns to action Thursday night, when they travel to Vermont to play the Mountaineers from Southern Vermont College at 8:00 p.m. The Nighthawks next matchup Thursday night , against Lesley University at 5:00 p.m.
