PRIDE ROLLS PAST WILDCATS 85-37

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's basketball team defeated Wheelock College Saturday afternoon at the Teresa Higgins Gymnasium by the score of 85-37. The victory moves the Pride to 9-3 overall on the season and 6-0 in NECC conference play. The visiting Wildcats move to 0-12 overall on the season and 0-6 in NECC play.

The Pride started the first half off under the strong offensive play of sophomore Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine.). Ramonas put Regis on a 10 point run during the first five minutes of play. The Wildcats answered back with a jumper by Kayla Drescher to cut the lead to eight. The Pride responded with an up-tempo defensive set led by senior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) who caused the Wildcats to commit 14 turnovers in the first half.

The Wildcats offense was sparked by Keneisha Milton and Kayla Drescher who combined to tally 14 points in the first half. Milton and Drescher were strong on the defensive side of the ball as well, teaming up to notch four rebounds and two steals in the first half.

Regis rounded out the first half of play with two deep three pointers from Lauren Kimble (Concord, Calif.). Kimble ended the first half with eight points. The score at the half was 51-18 in favor of the Pride.

The second half opened with the Pride hitting full stride on offense.  Freshman Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) converted on a fast break layup to put the Pride up by as many as 45. Crawford, Marro, Ramonas, and Kimble would all hit double digits in the scoring at the end of the second half. Ramonas compiled a team high racking up 18 points on the game.

The Wildcats would continue to get successful minutes from Milton and Drescher in the second half of play. Milton finished the game with a team high in points and rebounds by notching 18 and grabbing six boards. Drescher racked up 11 points on the day and finished with four rebounds.

Regis returns to action Tuesday night, when the Pride hosts NECC opponent Newbury College at 5:30 p.m. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, when they host the Blazers from Elms College at 7:30 p.m.
