REGIS COLLEGE CLIP HAWKS IN TCCC PLAY

BRISTOL, R.I. – Regis College claims sole possession of fifth place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 50-67 win over the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The loss for Roger Williams drops the Hawks to 6-5 in the conference and puts them in a three-way tie for sixth place with Curry College, who defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 71-53 earlier in the day. Regis sits in fifth place (7-4) with a chance to move into third place by the end of the season.

The Pride opened the game with Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H.) going one of two at the line to give Regis an early lead. Roger Williams would ultimately take a 6-5 advantage on a pair of free throws by Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.).

Over the next eight minutes, the game would become a back-and-forth affair, with the squads combining for seven lead changes and two ties before a fast-break three-point play by McNult broke a 16-all tie with 6:47 to play in the period. That would spark an 11-0 run for Regis before the Hawks came back to make it a 26-32 halftime deficit.

In the second half, the Pride threw on a press combined with a fast-paced attack to keep the Hawks at bay. Kilzi knocked down a jumper at the 18:19 mark to pull RWU within four, but the Pride responded with a 22-4 run to take a 22-point lead and put the game out of the Hawks' reach.

The Pride's lead never dropped below 17 and killed the clock at the end of the game with a two-minute possession highlighted by four offensive rebounds.

McNult finished with a double-double for the Pride, going for 17 points and 11 rebounds. Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points with five boards and four assists, while Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) added 15 points and three steals.

Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) scored 16 points for the Hawks, with Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) adding eight points and four rebounds. Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) went for five points and nine boards.

Roger Williams (13-9, 6-5 TCCC) hosts Curry College Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in a battle sixth place in the TCCC. Regis (13-10, 7-4 TCCC) hosts Nichols College Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
