Women's Lacrosse Drops to Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. — Regis College Women's Lacrosse traveled to Dean College to take on the Bulldogs in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. The home team dominated the second and third quarters to extend its lead and later clinch a 14-8 victory. The loss drops the Pride to 2-5 on the season. 

Molly Higgins (Weymouth, Mass.), Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), and Maddie Sainato (Wilmington, Mass.) contributed two goals each, while Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) and Leilany Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) collected one goal and one assist apiece. 

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) turned away seven shots followed by Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) with five in net.

The Bulldogs were led by Natalie Peterson, who registered a game-high five goals, while Alisha Caldeira, Nina Medeiros, Haley Gaunt, and Emma Mock added two goals each in the Bulldogs victory. 

How it Happened:

  • Dean registered the first goal at the 4:00 mark of the first quarter to lead with one heading into the second.

  • Sainato tied the match at the start of the second before the Bulldogs rallied four unanswered goals to lead 5-1 heading into halftime.

  • Higgins opened the third frame with a goal to close the deficit to three, however Dean extended its offense with three back-to-back goals before the Pride registered three of its own, trailing 8-5.

  • Medeiros, Peterson, and Mock contributed three additional goals to lead 11-5 heading into the final quarter.

  • In the fourth, Regis bounced back with three goals to inch within three of the Bulldogs at 11-8, however, the Bulldogs offense remained persistent to close out the final quarter with three goals featuring a man-up goal by Peterson, resulting in a 14-8 final in favor of the Bulldogs. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Rodriguez registered her first collegiate goal.

  • Mazo scooped up six ground balls while nine other players collected two or more ground balls.

  • Higgins led the Pride with four caused turnovers.

The Pride will return home on Wednesday, March 26th to host Thomas College at Regis Stadium at 7 p.m.
