WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Behind a five-goal performance from first-year Maddie Sainato (Wilmington, Mass.), the Regis College Women's Lacrosse team secured a 12-10 road victory over the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win improves the Pride's conference record to 2-3 and their overall mark to 4-6.
Behind Sainato's five-goal performance, the Pride also benefited from strong offensive contributions by Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) and Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), who tallied four and two goals, respectively, while each adding an assist. On the defensive end, Vanessa Kozinski (Merrimack, N.H.) led the way with a game-high four caused turnovers, while Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded 10 saves in the victory.
Anna LeGault led the Bluejays' offense with two goals and four assists, while Alna Picard and Brianna Cannon each recorded a hat trick. In net, Colleen Stringer made 10 saves in the effort.
How it Happened:
- The Blue Jays struck first at the 11:16 mark, but the Pride responded quickly. Behind a strong offensive push, Ayala and Sainato each netted two goals during a 6-1 run to close out the quarter, giving the Pride a 6-2 lead after one.
- Sainato continued her offensive surge in the second quarter, scoring three more times to help extend the Pride's advantage to 10-6 at halftime.
- Mason wasted no time adding to the lead, scoring just 13 seconds into the third quarter. Both teams then traded goals before the end of the frame, sending the game into the final quarter with the Pride leading 12-7.
- The Blue Jays made a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to two with 1:20 remaining. However, the Pride stood strong in the final moments to secure the 12-10 victory.
