Pride Women’s Lacrosse Closes 2022 Season

WESTON, Mass. – In its final match of the 2022 season, Regis College stayed with Elms College early, but the Blazers put together a scoring run in the first half to gain control on their way to a 15-6 victory over the Pride Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Just 29 seconds into the match, Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) converted a free position attempt to put the Pride on the board, but Anna-Elise Pikul answered 16 seconds later to even the match. Pikul assisted on a goal by Lauren Fletcher to put the Blazers on top before an unassisted goal by Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) with just under five minutes left in the first quarter created another tie at 2-2.

The Blazers would score the final three goals of the opening period, led by Elise Paier with two goals and one assist, and then she assisted on a goal by Taylor Borla 39 seconds into the second quarter to extend the Elms lead to 6-2. After a tally by Isabella Beane (Marlborough, Mass.), the Blazers pulled away further with five unanswered goals, led by Pikul and Paier with two goals apiece.

Marley scored both Pride goals in the second half as she finished with a team-high four goals, but Borla would score twice in the second half to help Elms maintain its advantage throughout the rest of the night.

Three Elms players finished with six points, as Pikul and Paier earned four goals and two assists each while Borla collected three goals and three assists. Borla also picked up six draw controls and Arianna Callahan earned eight groundballs, while Pero led the Pride with nine groundballs and six draw controls.

Emma Walsh finished with 16 saves as she picked up the victory, and Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.) ended up with six saves for the Pride.

Before the match, Regis seniors Julia Burke (Barrington, N.H.) and Kate Flemming (Woburn, Mass.) were honored in a Senior Night presentation.

Regis College (2-14, 2-11 GNAC) has completed the 2022 season. Elms (7-7, 6-7 GNAC) is still in contention for a spot in the GNAC Tournament, depending on the results of matches involving Dean Wednesday, April 27, and Lasell Thursday, April 28.
