Cadets Defeat Pride in GNAC Action

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College Women's Lacrosse hosted the Norwich University Cadets at Regis Stadium tonight, where they were defeated 15-6 in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. The loss dropped the Pride to an overall record of 2-4 and 1-1 in GNAC play.

Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.) led the Pride with three goals, while Teal Galligan (Acushnet, Mass.), Maddie Sainato (Wilmington, Mass.), and Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) each contributed one goal, with Mason adding six draw controls to her name. Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) made eight saves in goal for the Pride.

For the Cadets, Vivian Buntin and Athena Merck each scored four goals, with Buntin adding two assists and Merck one. Defensively, Celine Juneau caused four turnovers and grabbed four ground balls, while Bailey Manning-Ingala made eight saves in goal to secure the victory.

How it Happened

  • The Pride jumped out to a 3-1 lead with goals from Ayala, Galligan, and Sainato. However, the Cadets responded with four unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.
  • Ayala scored her second goal of the game, but a pair of goals each from Buntin and Merck extended Norwich's lead to 9-4 at halftime.
  • Mason scored early in the second half, and Ayala completed her hat trick at the 7:18 mark, but Norwich doubled-up the Pride, 12-6, before entering the fourth quarter.
  • The Cadets added three more goals in the final 15 minutes to secure a 15-6 victory at Regis Stadium.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Brynn Foster (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded a season-high five ground balls and tied her season-high with three caused turnovers in tonight's game.
  • Serenity Ayala's hat trick was her first of the season and the second of her career in the crimson and gold.
