Women’s Lacrosse Stays with Lasell Throughout GNAC Match

NEWTON, Mass. – Regis College battled Lasell University throughout the afternoon, but the Lasers were able to hold off the Pride, 14-10, Tuesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match at Grellier Field.

Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) struck first for the Pride three minutes into the match before Lasell scored the next three goals, including consecutive tallies by Sophia Gadsden. Regis scored three goals within the first 75 seconds of the second quarter, with Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.), Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.), and Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) earning one goal each to put the Pride on top, 4-3.

After Marley scored midway through the second period to put the Pride back on top, 5-4, Lasell scored the final three goals of the first half, featuring two from Emily Chapdelaine, to go into halftime with a 7-5 advantage. Chapdelaine scored the first goal of the third quarter, but Marley answered just 16 seconds later to bring the Pride back within two at 8-6.

Lasell (4-6, 3-4 GNAC) scored three goals in the final three-and-a-half minutes of the third period to increase its lead to 11-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. Marley scored twice and Pero added a goal in the span of 30 seconds to close the Regis deficit to 12-9, but Chapdelaine assisted on the Lasers' next two goals to solidify the home team's victory.

Marley finished with five goals, seven draw controls, four groundballs, and two caused turnovers, while Pero and Conover scored two goals apiece. Rogers earned six groundballs and three caused turnovers, and goalie Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.) kept the Pride in the match with 11 saves.

Chapdelaine led the Lasers with four goals and four assists, while Sydney Brady earned four goals, one assist, six groundballs, and eight draw controls. Lasell goalie Devin Zambruno also made 11 saves, including five saves in the third period to help her team pull away from the Pride.

Regis (2-8, 2-5 GNAC) hosts Rivier University Saturday, April 9, starting at 12 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
