Women's Lacrosse Kicks Off Conference Play with First 2022 Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Regis College was able to stave off an Albertus Magnus comeback on the way to its first win of the season, 12-11, Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's collegiate lacrosse match at Celentano Field.

Isabella Beane (Marlborough, Mass.) paced the Pride offense with six goals and one assist, while Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) also earned a hat trick, adding three goals and one assist. Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) contributed two goals, while Kate Flemming (Woburn, Mass.) finished with one goal and one assist.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Pride held a 10-8 advantage over the Falcons which would improve to 11-8 when Marley scored an unassisted goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Albertus Magnus mounted a comeback when Katherine Raposo scored three straight unassisted goals to tie the game at 11-11 with 1:41 remaining on the clock.
 
With just 19 seconds left, the Pride would prevent the game from going into overtime on a game-winning goal by Marley, who was assisted by Beane on the play.
 
The Pride victory occurred despite being behind, 5-3, at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Regis scored three unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead over the Falcons heading into halftime. Beane would score three times in the third quarter, extending the Regis lead to 10-7 by the end of the period.
 
Raposo led the way for Albertus Magnus, scoring seven goals and dishing out two assists. Alexandra Barrett contributed two goals and two assists for the home team while Madison Duranleau and Mariah Mandulak each added one goal.
 
Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.) made 13 saves in her first career win as a Pride goalkeeper while Albertus Magnus goalie Chloe Oliver made 11 saves for the Falcons.
 
Regis College (1-2, 1-0 GNAC) next travels to Northfield, Vt., to take on the Norwich Cadets Wednesday, Mar. 16, beginning at 7:00 p.m. before returning to host Emmanuel Saturday, Mar. 19, at 12:00 p.m.
